The colorful house down at the end of Elk gives full-size candy bars to Trick or Treaters!

This is an obvious indication of superior human beings. Even when they knew we changed costumes as kids and went back, they happily obliged.

In later years, we came to find out that the Mom worked for a massive candy manufacturer and was able to get all the malformed candy she wanted as samples.

They once had a child in the 1960s, Madeline, who loved Halloween. Madeline passed as a child due to complications from Cerebral Palsy. Tom and Patty, the parents left behind to pick up the pieces of life and try to rebuild, found joy in her memory on Halloween, seeing the local children enjoying their youth and field that Madeline was watching with approval.

After the porch light went out, every beggar’s night, Tom and Patty would collapse, exhausted on the couch and sob together until sleep took them elsewhere, while Madeline cuddled between them to great comfort.
