Anne’s Song – 8X8 Watercolor – $90

Anne’s house is the old Victorian on Maple for decades, locals have referred to it as “The Witch House”.

If for nothing more than Anne being a recluse who happens to have a cauldron in the front yard as a lawn ornament. She may or may not practice witchcraft, but did wink at me when I asked, as a teen.

Being her paperboy, I was one of the few consistent humans in her life and I think she enjoyed seeing me coming up the steps, always stepping out to take the paper and asking me about my life and talking about her youth, her husband who passed from lung cancer when he was only 40 and the big empty house that is “full of spirits”.

From what I gathered, after her husband, Hank passed, she dove headfirst into the spiritual realm, learning mediumship, tarot, palmistry, and all the typical attributes that go along with that path.

She’d occasionally read my palm and tell me things that might happen and occasionally, she was spot on. I started to believe she had truly tapped into something that most people don’t understand and asked if I could learn more about it.

She confided in me that she makes it all up. That for a long while it gave her solace to think that her husband was near and that she had a line to the spirit world, but didn’t think it would be wise for a kid like me to start meddling in such things on a lark.

Anne is simply a very sweet old lady with eccentric tastes and now that I’m an adult, I still visit her to talk about her adventures.

Incidentally, Anne will be celebrating her 328th birthday this Friday.
