Main With Clouds – 8X8 Acrylic $90
If you stand on the corner of Oak Street near dusk and look West, through the Village proper, you can usually be treated to a unique sunset. It’s unique because anywhere else in the area, the sky is wide open, and its experience blankets the soft, rolling hills.
But here, in this small center of commerce, barely two blocks in length, the light bounces everywhere, off window, brick and stone. The hues change in real-time as the sky moves to darkness, which offers an equally spectacular vision of purple shadows, dark umber poles, and deep crimson masonry. The soft light from windows flows from pale yellow to a dreamy orange, and is especially captivating in the Cafes, on Fall and Winter nights, when it shines as a beacon in the darkness of the village, offering warmth, coziness, and other pleasantries. From a distance, these lights seem to flicker as the souls inside move back and forth across the spectrum reminiscent of the twinkling stars above the same village.
It’s a good place and just like any other village it’ll have its challenges, surprises, and triumphs, but none of that matters while looking to the West on any fine evening such as this when you realize the buildings of the village are more likely the people in those cafes, homes, and businesses here. They reflect the same light from the same sky from the same corner but in motion.
