Lime Sky – 8X8 Acrylic $90

You can pretty much go out to the stone wall by the lakeshore at any time, open your mind to random thoughts, cast a line, and watch the boats come and go. The ever-moving features of the sky are a reminder of constant change, whereas the ebb and flow of the water is an experiment in chaotic redundancy. One can see small fish in the water that seem to pay no mind to the conditions, existing on an automatic pilot mode that I’m a little jealous of. Boats come and go carrying souls to and from, someplace unknown to me, which seems on par with a bigger picture and allows me to take a peaceful breath. I suppose there isn’t always a destination…sometimes they take to the wind for the sake of it and that is enough. When docked, the boats might seem empty, but they are actually full, with hope and potential. An empty boat can make no mistakes but never moves and that doesn’t seem fun. As for fishing from the breakwall, it seems to be a place to fish for the sake of fishing, not for a prize, yet it’s something one can count on and happy surprises do happen. Once I was fishing here in my teens and caught a very small bass, as I was unhooking, I heard a voice behind me say “Hello”. Out of some bizarre instinct, I quickly and secretly put the fish in my pocket, as if I knew I was about to do a magick trick. I turned to find a beautiful girl about my age approaching, to sit in the same section of rocks. I replied hello and the fish in my pocket (that I had already forgotten about) began thrashing about in the most awkward way possible. I pulled it from my pocket, looking surprised because I kind of was, and looked at the girl, who looked back with amazement. I proceeded to toss the fish back into the lake so it could keep on existing and be free. We laughed (likely not the fish), she sat down and we talked about nothing until the stars came out, taking turns with the fishing pole, catching nothing but memories. I never saw her again. As it turns, she was the sky and the waves, and I, the empty boat.
